EA deal to speedup clearing of goods

Clearing goods at the Port of Mombasa is set to be speeded up following the coming into force of East Africa community common market protocol, managing director Mr Gichiri Ndua has said.
Mr Ndua observed that traders in the region may get their goods cleared, transported and delivered in time because major checks will be done in Mombasa allowing goods on transit to cross borders without many hurdles.
He said unrestricted trade will accelerate foreign investment in the region although the anticipated effect on growth of cargo at Mombasa national depot may not be felt.
This, Mr Ndua he said, is because most countries in East Africa import goods made in Kenya and the consumers are still the same in number.
He was speaking at the Kenya ports authority offices during a handover of 10 computers to the principal of Gogo secondary school in Kisumu.

He said that his organisation has set aside more than 300 computers to be donated to primary and secondary schools in Kenya which according to the, are meant realize millennium objectives of basic information technology literacy.
He said the project which is partnered with Microsoft Company and the government of Kenya will ease the learning process through thorough academic research adding that it is also aimed at speeding up communication in various sectors in education.
Mr Ndua pointed out that rural areas need to be elevated to reach similar ground as the urban arguing that schools in these regions struggle too much to catch up with the world.
"Each primary school shall be given five computers and secondary schools that will meet required criteria shall be given 10 computers each for the purpose of learning and especially where teachers are Information Technology literate, " said Mr Ndua
